So, last Friday, March 11th, I got a very exciting message. The lovely team at Frockadvisor invited myself and a plus one to an event they were having on Tuesday 15th in Debenhams in Cork.
For those that don’t know, Frockadvisor is an Irish app where you can follow boutiques and stores around Ireland, keep updated with their latest deliveries and current trends. If you are in search of a particular item, post a picture of what you’re looking for and the stores will get back to you if they have anything similar…how handy? Or like myself, you could post photos of looks or items you’re loving. Frockadvisor have tonnes of great features on it, a list as long as my arm. One in particular they feature their favourite Frockadvisor users and little old me is currently featured. Hence where my invite came from. Get the app here.
The team at Frockadvisor were holding a wedding style clinic event, teaming up with Debenhams Ireland and Universal Pictures, all for the upcoming release of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. The evening was hosted by Irish designer and all round fabulous Brendan Courtney (who is involved with the app).
On arrival we were greeted with some bubbles and chocolates, fancy eh? Myself and my friend took our seats in the ‘frow’ along with gorgeous Cork blogger Chloe and her plus one. The floor was set with mannequins wearing wedding guest attire, as well as current trend outfits. There too was a table set with makeup from The Balm, as there was also going to be a makeup masterclass…what more could you want.
Along with Brendan, there was a personal shopper from Debenhams going through all Debenhams current collection for what could be worn to a wedding, and also going through the latest Spring/Summer trends. I honestly didn’t even know Debenhams did a personal shopper experience.
What I’ve learned from the event:
- Personal Shopper in Debenhams is free. Can also be used for kids.
- Debenhams do a men’s suit hire.
- They also do an alteration service.
- They also stock Jenny Packham. (Who’s dresses have been seen on red carpets)
- If you wear a hat to a wedding, tradition says that you can only take it off when mother of the bride does.
- Apparently, the mother of the bride has to look better than mother of the groom haha, who agrees?
- When it comes to wedding season what is on trend for guests to wear now is:
1. Botanic Garden theme 2. Lace 3. Bow details 4. Pearl accents.
- Current trends for S/S are:
1. Denim 2. Suede. 3. Monochrome. 4. Riviera 5. Desert Safari.
While all this was going on one lucky attendee was getting her makeup done by Donna the makeup artist from The Balm. She talked us through the products used and how to use them. I never realised that a lot of The Balm products are actually multi-use, did you? There too was plenty of spot prizes on the night. As we left we were given our goodie bag of which we got The Balms most famous product, Mary Lou Manizer highlighter. What a treat. I must be the only person that doesn’t have this so I was very pleased.
Our host Brendan absolutely made the night for me. I’m a huge fan of his anyway but he is exactly like how he is on T.V. He is so quick witted and hilarious, and the man knows his fashion. He made us all laugh and I absolutely fell in love with him.
We then made our way to The Gate Cinema for a private preview screening of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. As a fan of the first one, I was super excited to get to see this before its release date on the 25th March. And a little cinema date was the perfect way to end our night before heading back home to Waterford.
So thank you so much to Frockadvisor and Debenhams Ireland for the invite, I had a great night.
