Sorry for my absence, no I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth, life gets in the way, you know yourself. But I’m back, for the time being anyway.
So in total I have 3 eyeshadow primers. The Urban Decay Primer Potion, Flormar EyeShadow Primer and the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base. I have been using the UD Primer Potion for years. Then when I was in Amsterdam two years ago I picked up a Flormar primer, which is crazy similar to the UD one. Then recently, after all of its hype, I bought the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base. Since then, the competition between UD and Essence has been mighty. Let’s talk about these 2 shall we…
Urban Decay Primer Potion
This primer is a staple in every girls make up kit. It has always been ‘the original‘ eye primer. I always found it good but to be honest, I don’t really have oily eyelids so staying power for eyeshadow was never an issue. Urban Decay do a few different styles of this primer.
- Comes in a tube. Let’s you squeeze as much as you like.
- Quick a thin consistency.
- Spreads very easy.
- Quite shimmery.
- Kind of greasy when applied.
- Only available at Urban Decay stands in Debenhams or online.
Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base
I could not ignore all the talk about this primer. I never questioned how good the UD primer was until I picked this up. I’ve been using it every time I wear eyeshadow to really test this out.
- Doe Foot applicator. I much prefer this to a tube. Makes application 100 times easier, and less messy.
- It is thicker in consistency to UD.
- Very similar to a concealer. So really intensifies eyeshadows.
- Dries matte.
- No shimmer.
- Spreads easy.
- Buildable coverage.
- Very yellow in colour so neutralises any discolouration on the lid.
- Available in most pharmacies and Penneys. Also pharmacies online.
Like I said before, I never questioned how good the Urban Decay Primer Potion was. Half of me thinks that could be because it has always just been known as the best eye primer. Maybe I was brainwashed by the hype, who knows. But now, step aside UD and make way for my new favourite. Yes, for me, I much prefer the Essence Eye Base.
The hype was worth it. UD comes in at the €20 mark, whereas Essence is only about €3!! I mean, great quality for a steal. I just prefer the consistency, the applicator. I like how it is matte and not shimmery. Personally it suits me better. In saying that, both intensify eyeshadow and make colour last longer. So, it’s all about preference. Goes to show, don’t dismiss products because of the brand name and price, most of the time the products stand their own.
Hope this was of use. These are all my own honest opinions, but remember when it comes to beauty products everyone’s views are different 🙂
