Primark A/W17 Press Launch

Hey gals,

I was lucky enough to attend the Penneys/Primark Autumn Winter press launch where they showcased all the goodness to arrive in store for the next season, to arrive in store from August.

Autumn and Winter are my favourite seasons to dress for by far. I had my idea of what to expect…the usual velvet and sparkle typical of that season but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the key themes throughout the collection. No particular trend stood out as it was all about textures and colour, making it easier to transition the pieces into anyone’s wardrobe.

Here are some of the main things I noticed from the upcoming collection:

Red

Shades of red is the key colour of the season, both in clothing and accessories. Something I’m loving the idea of, instead of the token burgundy and black you see everywhere in Winter. The majority of the items I loved were in this colour scheme. That blood orange suit though is giving me LIFE. I mean, it’s so beautiful and the quality is so good. The red boots and that fab croc bag will 100% be hunted down in Penneys as soon as they hit stores.

Stand Out Jackets

What’s A/W without having those stand out jackets/coats? For me I think it’s so important to have a great jacket for the colder months, not just for the function of warmth (well needed in Ireland) but also because it’s all people will see when you’re out and about. Penneys had an array of styles for us. The token oversized blazer, reefer to metallic puffa. I love the tweed coat with the ruffle shoulder, and the red with the signature sleeve, something we’ve been seeing in Summer going through to our WInter coats. My favourite has to be the gray oversized blazer with the crushed velvet trimming. So 80’s, very Duckie ‘Pretty in Pink’ am I right? I am all over it.

PVC

I was a little surprised to see some PVC and a bit of ‘pleather’ items in there. Those black  trousers in particular, I mean WOW serious show stoppers, they are also available in red. Very risqué.  Also the little black mini skirts, different to the styles of skirts we see of this season. I love the unique detail on them. I’m sure they’re not to everybody’s liking, questionable I’m sure but I am gagging over them. I love me some quirky pieces. If you can’t decide whether you love it or it’s too tacky… I’ll prob think it’s fab, no question.

Vintage Florals

Florals in Winter? Sure dark florals are something we’re used to seeing for A/W, but certainly not the vintage colourful florals we are seeing this time round. Serious Gucci vibes with the fab vintage florals in teals, mustards and pinks. Something else I’m sure is not to everyone’s taste but these blouses and dresses feed my affinity to vintage.

Shoes and Accessories

A lot of the floral embroidery we have seen EVERYWHERE this year is not going anywhere next season, I blame Alessandro Michele. Being honest, it is a trend I’m kind of over now. What I am loving though is the pearl accents in a lot of the items, including the Doc Marten style boots and the absolutely stunning pink ballet shoes. Boots are making a serious statement with their quirky style and I am gagging for them.

So as you can see there is a lot of exciting stuff to come and Penneys definitely want us to stand out in these fab unique pieces. I love how bold this collection is, something that, for me, fashion and style should be all about. I mean why blend in when you can stand out? Werk it girl
